In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Bryce Conway

Bryce is a 20-something entrepreneur, author and travel-hacker from Columbus, Ohio. While trying to ensure he had a fun spring break Bryce stumbled upon a useful loophole in the credit card system. He now travels all around the world for next to nothing, and keeps an entertaining blog about it as well as having written a book which you can download for free.

Charley Buchan

Charley Buchan is a man of many hats. He has been a musician, teacher, worked in University outreach programmes and now, as a side project, runs a small record label. Through this record label Charley manages to bring together people from rural parts of Scotland and preserve old traditions and language. His inclusive community building approach means that he is also not afraid to work with people from any genre who just want to get their voice out there.

Chris Smith

Chris Smith shot to fame (amongst maths teachers) through his weekly maths newsletter. This quirky educator is constantly inspiring teachers and students alike by showing them the wonders of maths.

Iain MacIllechiar

Iain is an allegedly retired lecturer in Gaelic who is still teaching, broadcasting and giving talks! He learned the language as a teenager, played an active role in its regeneration and brought up a family of Gaelic speakers.

Màiri Keir

The daughter of Iain MacIllechair, Màiri was brought up to speak Gaelic and is still keeping the language alive.

Maria Maclennan

Maria Maclennan is a designer and researcher who has translated her talents in jewellery to become practical in the field of forensic science. Through this she is developing techniques to use peoples' adornments to identify their bodies after death. A fantastically new and unusual field, Maria has managed to secure positions working with the police and is currently working on her PhD.

Mark Davidson

Mark's background is in philosophy and coaching. He has drawn on his philosophical work (the Philosophical Clarity Project and a novel, The Philosophy Game) and his coaching experience (INSEAD, Harvard, and many multinational companies) to develop a powerful new paradigm for coaching and organisational development. He now runs Merlin Scotland, a start-up that teaches coaching. In this talk he will be discussing how to implement common sense in every day life.

Melanie Newdick

Melanie grew up amidst the aroma of diesel in the transport industry and her career has included travelling the world, organising events and even sorting nuts! Recently appointed as a Non Executive Director to NHS Highland, Melanie is a keen supporter of technology in healthcare, which combines her love of improvement with her passion for gadgets. As a carer for someone with dementia Melanie has seen firsthand the huge difference that having information can make to wellbeing.

Michael Dempster

Michael is an Auditory Neuroscientist who gained his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Glasgow for his work exploring neural processing fundamental to language and music perception. He is also a first-language Scots speaker. He has taught modern Scots to people from outwith Scotland and to people from Scotland who want to learn more about their own ways of speaking. Over the past year he has been working on his forthcoming book “Mind yer language? - How we talk English an how we talk Scots.”

Steve Dodsworth

Steve is a molecular immunologist, and one of the first scientists to work on the UK arm of the human genome project. Now working as a CEO Steve still has a driving passion for science and its use in improving health and quality of life.
