In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Amy Toensing

Amy Toensing, an American photojournalist committed to telling stories with sensitivity and depth, is known for her intimate essays about the lives of ordinary people. Toensing has been a regular contributor to National Geographic magazine for over a decade and recently completed her fourteenth feature story for them which was about food insecurity in the United States. She has also worked for numerous other international publications such as The New York Times, Smithsonian, and The Wall Street Journal. For the last 4 years she has been documenting Aboriginal Australia which was published in the June, 2013 issue of National Geographic magazine.

Andrew Zwicker

Andrew Zwicker is a physicist and the Head of Science Education at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory. His group creates programs that motivate and inspire students to look beyond today’s norms and conventions, programs that unlock potential and create new possibilities. A Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS), he is currently the Editor of the newsletter “Physics and Society.” He holds a Ph.D. in physics from Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. in physics from Bard College. His research interests include 3D printing of laboratory equipment, fusion energy, remote control of laboratory equipment for online learning, and educational uses of plasmas.

Ani Trime Lhamo

The Venerable Bhikshuni Karma Trime Lhamo, an American-born Buddhist nun, is the director of the Princeton Buddhist Meditation Group. A practitioner for nearly 40 years, Ani Trime originally studied with Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, one of the first Tibetan Buddhist masters to teach in the West, and she is now a student of the Tibetan teacher Anam Thubten. She has also studied and practiced to some extent in the Theravada and Zen traditions. Ani Trime’s down-to-earth, straightforward approach emphasizes meditation practice, kindness, and everyday experience, all presented with humor and warmth.

Annegret Dettwiler

Annegret Dettwiler-Danspeckgruber M.S., Ed.D. is a Research Scientist at the Princeton Neuroscience Institute, Princeton University. Originally from Switzerland, she graduated with a Doctor of Education from the department of bio-behavioral studies and movement sciences at Teacher’s College at Columbia University in 1999. Her research focuses on understanding the ‘invisible injuries’ that concussion provides, and to develop and improve diagnostic methods to improve the safety of the athletes that are at risk of concussion.

Brett Diehl

Brett Diehl is a senior at Princeton University majoring in history. For the past four years he has tutored students inside New Jersey state prisons with the Petey Greene Program. In addition, Brett served as president of Students for Prison Education and Reform (SPEAR), a group based at Princeton University, for the 2014 calendar year. He will be continuing his studies next years at Worcester College, University of Oxford as the Daniel M. Sachs Class of 1960 Scholar.

Debbie Schaeffer

Debbie Schaeffer is the 3rd generation owner of Mrs. G TV & Appliances. Debbie is a passionate crusader for local independent businesses. She firmly believes that community-serving businesses are the backbone of our local economy, civic life, local charities, and wealth creation for millions of citizens, as well as a training ground for future generations of entrepreneurs.

E Roon Kang

E Roon Kang lives and works in New York, where he operates Math Practice – an interdisciplinary design and research studio, with interest in studying, evaluating, and criticizing complex systems and its pursuit of efficiency. E Roon is a TED Fellow, was previously a research fellow at SENSEable City Laboratory of MIT, and received Young Guns award from Art Director’s Club. His work has selected as an inaugural project of LACMA’s Art + Technology Lab, received NSF Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge, and shown in places including the Museum of Modern Arts (MoMA), Seattle Public Library, and the Architectural League of New York. He gave talks and lectures at MIT, TED Conferences and Cannes Int’l Festival of Creativity, among others, and taught courses at Bauhaus-University Weimar, SUNY Purchase, NYU ITP, and Rutgers University. He holds an MFA in graphic design from Yale.

Jaime Parker

Jaime Parker is Manager of Programs at the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK). TASK is a nonprofit that feeds those who are hungry in the Mercer County area and offers programs to encourage self-sufficiency and improve the quality of life of its patrons. TASK co-ordinates the work of some 3500 volunteers in the Mercer County region, and brings a new dimension to community service in New Jersey.

Regina Wang

Regina Wang works at Climate Central, a nonprofit organization of scientists and journalists dedicated to researching and reporting the science and impacts of climate change. She holds a B.A. in Geosciences and certificates in Public Policy, Environmental Studies and Sustainable Energy from Princeton where her research focused on topic such as changes in deciduous tree leaf phenology in response to rising temperatures, the potential for citizen suits for climate change damages, and a life cycle analysis of solar power. At Climate Central, Regina’s work includes analyses of current climate trends and projections of future conditions in topics like wildfires, inland flooding and heatwaves.

Roon Kang

William Massey

William A. Massey is the Edwin S. Wilsey Professor of Operations Research and Financial Engineering at Princeton University. Prior to joining the Princeton faculty in 2001 but after receiving his PhD in mathematics at Stanford University, he worked for twenty years as a research mathematician at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey. He is the first African-American to be an undergraduate at Princeton (mathematics major in the class of 1977, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi) before becoming a full professor there. His research interests range from the probabilistic field of queuing theory to the related applications found in the modeling and design of communications and healthcare systems. He was born and raised in Missouri in the cities of Jefferson City and St. Louis respectively.
