TEDxYouthPaloAlto is a unique event -- organized by youth about youth and for youth. This year’s event focuses on the theme of youth empowerment through education. Attendees will be encouraged to find their muse and turn their ideas into action, in their own lives and in the community. Attendance is limited to 100 to ensure an intimate and interactive experience!
Inspired by the TED conferences, TEDxYouth is intended to bring the TED experience to youth. As part of a global launch, TEDxYouthPaloAlto takes place on Saturday, November 20, 2010. This day is the United Nation’s Universal Children’s Day. Over 50 TEDxYouthDay conferences are being held around the world, including Amsterdam, Bangalore, Budapest, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Lisbon, Sofia, Soweto, Sydney, Tokyo, Toronto and around the USA.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxYouthPaloAlto, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxYouthPaloAlto event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
Event sponsor SEAN is the Student Equity Action Network, a 501(c)(3) California non-profit corporation, whose mission is college readiness for all, in our community and beyond. Founded in 2008 by Palo Alto High School students, SEAN has a diverse leadership team comprised of student and community leaders. SEAN works to close the achievement gap through outreach, advocacy and impact projects. For more information, see www.pasean.org
This independent TEDx event is operated under license from TED. Members of the SEAN leadership team attended the Craigslist Bootcamp in August 2010, and learned about TED, TEDx and TEDxYouthDay. From there, they applied for a TEDxYouthPaloAlto license, and with great community support we find ourselves here today holding this event!
