Theme: Lotus It blooms from mud and is beautiful

Rising and blooming, a lotus flower has many meanings and significance. Just like the very core mission of TED to spread “ideas worth sharing”, this season at TEDxJanpath, we would like to embrace the spirit of this beautiful lotus.

​It will be a grand fest to celebrate the unbending grit of a lotus bud as with its sheer determination it decides to rise out of the muddy marshes and bloom in its full glory, spreading smiles around. TEDxJanpath brings together an eclectic mix of social crusaders, thinkers and doers who too have evolved and progressed in a very challenging environment. As a perfect analogy, each speaker is a lotus flower, who has emerged as a winner, standing strong, stemming out of the muddy water.

The beauty of the flower always compels us to believe that extraordinary things can have humble origins, but it is the flaming desire that can unlock the inner potential and pave the way towards success. In life, we face several stumbling blocks and umpteen predicaments. The real test is when we continue to persevere, unperturbed and unrelenting. Lotus encourages us to gear up, break out of the rut, set our own track of expedition and eventually attain enlightenment.

So, let’s get together to cheer our visionary speakers from around the globe, who will share with us their vivid ideas, a rich treasure of experience and bounty of inspirational vibes. Come, join us in saluting this collective Lotus spirit!

Amruda is the Joint Managing Director & CEO of AIANA Hotels & Resorts. She is also the Board Member of Entrepreneur’s Organisation Mumbai and Vice President of Apne Aap Women’s Collective, an anti-trafficking organization. She was awarded the “Generation Next Awards” for Hospitality (2011) by All India Association of Industries and Young Entrepreneurs Society and Young FICCI Ladies Organisation Women Achiever’s Award (2012).

Dr. Pathak, sanitation crusader, has made contribution for solving problems of open defecation, removal of inhuman practice of manual scavenging associated with untouchability by inventing appropriate, affordable, technology for household toilets with minimum water use dispensing manual scavenging and maintaining 8000 self-sustaining ‘pay and use’ based public toilets . He was awarded Padma Bhushan and Stockholm Water Prize

Leslee Udwin

Udwin is a United Kingdom idependent filmmaker. Her film Sitting Targets chronicled her real-life struggles against Britain's most notorious criminal landlord, and her victory in setting a legal precedent in the High Court of England. Her award-winning Who Bombed Birmingham? led to the release of 6 innocent men after 17 years of wrongful imprisonment. She has produced 5 feature films, including East Is East which won the British Oscar & for which she was awarded Producer of the Year.

Lise Moulet

Lise Moulet is a multifaceted dancer, choreographer and instructor from France. Her extensive dance journey started at a very early age with Classical Ballet and Modern Jazz and progressively led her to specialize in Middle Eastern and Indian dance vocabulary. She currently trains in Kathak dance under the acclaimed Guru Pt Jai Kishan Maharaj, eldest son of the Kathak legend, Pt Birju Maharaj. In parallel, Lise works on contemporary choreographies that seek to harmonize and fuse movements from Kathak and other dances. Lise's studies and performances lead her to share her time between India, France and other parts of the world. She has performed on various stages internationally, notably in France, Belgium, Canada, India, Iran, Vietnam and Thailand.

Madiha Sultan Tai

Madiha Sultan Tai is the cofounder and CEO of Lals - A Karachi–based Patisserie and Chocolate brand that challenged industry standards when they opened in 2006. From the company’s roots as an experimental chocolate boutique, Madiha and her team have expanded their brand to include cafés, patisseries and gourmet chocolate stores in Pakistan’s two largest cities. Madiha drives Lals with a growth mindset and believes in striving for perfection in everything at Lals

Master Li Junfeng

Master Li Junfeng is the founder and principal teacher of the International Sheng Zhen Society. He was the former head coach of the Beijing Wushu (martial arts) team and the China National Wushu team. Master Li has appeared in four Chinese films, he was the leading male actor in three of them. He is best known for his starring role in The Honor of Dong Fang Xu (aka Deadly Fury), which won the Outstanding Film Award in China during 1983.

Patricia Bader Johnston

Patricia has been a retained advisor to the Tokyo Business Development Center and EGG Japan; is a global advisor to Impact International (UK)’ Flourish Initiative; Faculty Advisor to the London Business School, Professor of Globalization and Business Studies (MBA) at the Kenichi Ohmae Graduate School and Associate Professor at Rikkyo University. She is the Founding Chair of the Entrepreneur Mentoring Initiative and The Entrepreneur Awards Japan.

Rumaan Kidwai

Rumaan Kidwai is an independent film maker based out of Mumbai. With an up bringing in Indian and International cinema and advertising film making, he has been associated with the likes of Wong Kar Wai, Kevin Macdonald, Mira Nair, Tarsem Singh, Mani Ratnam and Prahlad Kakar, among others. Rumaan directs commercials for the Indian and Asian-African market and is currently working on his debut feature film

Sumit Chowdhury

Dr. Sumit D Chowdhury is an Author, Artist, Musician & Business Leader.He will be taking you on a brief visual journey showing you worlds within worlds, across space and time, using mathematical art, music and physical sciences and demonstrate the frequent convergence of matter and energy that helps us create one beautiful output after another, day after day, without any grand finale.He will talk about how the rules of the world applies to different micro and macrocosms in both religion and sciences.
