TEDxUofG brought together young entrepreneurs,students and young professionals to listen to inspiring speakers broach on the theme Unleashing Innovation.This was the first TEDx event organized on any University Campus in Accra@ the American Corner located at the University of Ghana.

Stuart Gold

Topic:Developing Innovation. Mr. Gold trained and practiced as an Architect in the UK before moving to the field of IT where he specialized in the development of database management systems and Internet software, with emphasis on collaborative virtual environments. On moving to Ghana Mr. Gold founded and managed a pressure group called StopKillingUs.com which sought to create awareness, both in Ghana and internationally, of the effects that climate change will have on Africa. Nearly three years ago Mr. Gold founded Trashy Bags which is a manufacturing NGO and social enterprise which employs sixty people in Accra to turn plastic trash found on the streets of Ghana into fashion and utility products for sale locally and abroad.

Kofi Bentil

Topic:Innovation from an unlikely source.Kofi's 1st degree was in Geography, He then trained to be an expert in Geographic Info. systems (GIS) (which is about how computers are used to map the earth (the precursor for google earth). Kofi However fell in love with the computers more than the GIS and he ultimately taught himself to be a computer person. He left GIS to become a computer salesman, He rose to become the Bus. Dev. Mgr. of Coalition Ventures (now ZIPNET) He later left to go sell Insurance, which he did for 5 years at Ghana's most respected Insurer EIC. in between kofi (a serial entrepreneur) started and run a number of startup companies. He also won the World Bank Global Devt Marketplace (GDM) entrepreneurship award. He has been a judge for many business plan competitions including Google/technoserve BBB competiton. Kofi is currently a Business Strategy Consultant/Lecturer and an authority on Services Marketing. He lectured Business Strategy in Ashesi University, and Services Marketing in the UofG Business School (Exec MBA). He has lectured in many institutions and companies. Kofi is also a Senior Fellow at IMANI, voted the 6th most influential Think Tank in Africa. He is a professional class guitar player. Kofi and his colleagues are currently in the process of setting up an organization to roll out Mpedigree’s SMS based counterfeit detection system, they already have signed up partners such as HP, and major pharmaceutical companies. Mpedigrees solution was recently accepted and adopted by the West Arican Health Organisation WAHO as the standard for the region.

Ama Pomaa

Topic:Social Entrepreneurship in Ghana. Ama is the Executive Director and founder Ghanaian High-Tech Women., the global marketplace for illiquid assets. She is responsible for GHW’s marketing, branding strategy, event production and digital media efforts. She assists in formulating the strategic direction and branding of the company as well as public relations efforts. Prior to starting GHW, Ama worked at a variety of technology start-ups spearheading marketing, communications and analytics. She worked at Alcatel Telecom, Spacebound Communications as well as 2Ti Solutions as the CEO of 2Ti Solutions. In March 2010, Ama launched Girls Young Women Social Entrepreneurs, an organization focused on the empowerment, engagement and education of women in the nonprofit sector.Ama enjoys supporting innovation that progresses industry and community. She is passionate about the sweet spot between community and social good. Ama holds a masters degree in Data Communications from the Brunel University, UK. Ama has and participated in Board Governance program at Kennedy school of government at Harvard university. She is currently enrolled in Tokyos microfinance .

Bart Kofi-Plange

Speaker Kofi Bart-Plange: Software Developer, Interface Designer, Mobile Consultant Topic:The Mobile Phone Revolution In Africa About Kofi Bart-Plange A student of Ashesi University and the Nokia/MIT EPROM Mobile Internet Program, Kofi Bart-Plange has worked with several organizations to provide mobile solutions to help revolutionalize the way they do things. His works include a mobile version of the Abapa Oware mobile game and Tycoon Mobile software for transferring money and mobile credit.
