Shriya Srinivasan demonstrates how sensory perception traverses from the soles of her feet to the brain as she dances a south Indian classical dance form, Bharathanatyam. The natural sense of where one's limbs are oriented in space at any given time and how they are moving is called proprioception. For the millions of amputees, this sensory feedback is lost due to an outdated surgical method. Shriya Srinivasan describes her research, which redesigns the surgical paradigm, reconnecting severed neural connections. This talk explores futuristic neural interfaces and challenges their ability to truly recreate the human experience.
