Currently, we live in an extremely divisive world that is often merciless because it celebrates division and opposition. This polarization and lack of empathy has challenged our social, cultural, and political growth. According to Dr. Carolyn Calloway Thomas, “Empathy is the glue that holds society together” (pg.7). Thus, we must reignite the practice of empathy to better understand the complexity of humanity and its relationship to social change; so that we can hold our world together. This speech will define empathy and its components, describe why it matters, and then call the audience to reignite the practice of empathy to reimagine social change.
