What working in a research lab taught me about perceptions of disability—and how to change them
Throughout her life, Sarika Chawla has striven to never let her disability define her. However, it wasn't until interning at a research lab that Sarika realized she had, ironically, been defining her scientific goals according to her own perception of her disability as something that needed to be cured. She explains why having a broader, more open mindset is crucial to changing people’s view of the disabled to one that affirms and values their existence.
