Starting in the late 18th century, zoos existed in a time of abundance, purely for the purpose of exhibition and entertainment. However, as the age of extinction began, many of the last species of animals died in zoos around the world - while the zoos did nothing to help. Nowadays zoos are getting better. As caretakers of a wide range of animals, it is crucial for zoos to be advocates for animal rights, research, and health.
