In today’s social and political climate some of the most pressing conversations revolve around leadership and diversity. In fact one of the most frequent request of Nselaa Ward, Juris Doctor is how to reinforce leadership and diversity in a hostile environment. While Nselaa Ward, JD has developed an expertise in leadership and diversity through her work with the National Organization for Women, the largest Women’s Organization in the World, as well as through her work as a previous attorney during the Black Lives Matter Movement, and her work as a business architect; her most valuable resource for leadership and diversity lessons came from the “Bar.”
The purpose of listing these achievements is not to impress, but to express how significant the lessons from the “bar” were in changing the climate of current leadership and diversity. In order to understand how to get towards a cornucopia of healthy leadership and diversity we have to first understand where we came from by examining the history of oppressed communities. During this talk we dive into Dr. Joy DeGruy’s concept of PTSD, Post Traumatic Slave Disorder, also known as PTSS. We examine this concept along with the mythical letters of Willie Lynch and how it has been colored under the disguise of success and competition. We also examine the results and consequences that we see in today’s society through the statistics of the prison industrial complex; in addition to the modern day lynchings and witch hunts such as the murder of Magdiel Sanchez, Philando Castile, and the life imprisonment of Cyntoia Brown.
In light of the historical context, when Housing and Urban Development Official Lynne Patton, said that US President Trump doesn’t see “color, race, creed, or religion” only “success and failure,” we are now provided with insightful texture into why we have been deficient in leadership and diversity worldwide. This talk gives a funny, entertaining, and insightful blueprint from the “Bar” to develop an authentic model of leadership and diversity that can be used from the Country, to the Courts, to the Community. This talk discusses the ultimate blueprint to lift us up as a society worldwide
