Scientists test hypotheses. Or in more simple terms, they take in any available information, craft an educated guess on how something works, and then complete an experiment to see how good that guess was. This is the process that inches discovery along as it pivots based on the outcome of any one experiment. While medical breakthrough are often marketed as eureka moments executed by select visionaries, they are often messy affairs completed by fallible and sometime lucky people. Biomedical researcher Heth Turnquist describes how embracing the process of discovery and the pivots that come with it can help imperfect people navigate a messy world paralyzed by an obsession for perfection.
