The talk focus on a youth group based in Namibia.
The Young Achievers is a youth empowerment group working with young people in Namibia since 2004. Throughout Namibia, youth are challenged with lack of programmes that stimulate their energy. They are growing up in neighborhood where there is little extra curricular activities, exposed to high rates of unemployment, alcoholism, gender based violence, a lack of positive role models and limited constructive recreational activities. In response, Young Achievers realize this need and thought it important to create an avenue where young people meet over the weekend to discuss their future with the focus on encouraging its members to articulate a positive vision and work collaboratively to gain the skills needed to reach one’s vision. The Young Achievers meet weekly to share knowledge, debate issues and learn from national and international speakers. The group creates a safe and supportive environment for member’s intellectual, social and professional development.
Objectives:
- To provide young people with a vision or a sense of mission in life
- To inspire and motivate young people to become responsible citizen, both locally, regionally and globally.
- To support young people in positive directions.
- Our hidden agenda is to at least have 100 percent of the participants to achievee their highest potential, eiter go to university, but become responsible citizens.
- Strive to involve community and country in the betterment of youth
- in the country
o Involve young people in the designing and delivering of programs and services
