The burden of healthcare expenditure is a matter of grave concern to India, where millions still remain below the Poverty Line- with not even a full day's meal to survive. Even then most families refuse to take up Palliative Care and resort to expensive, painful but fruitless drugs and procedures. Palliative Care has still not found its way into the Indian Medical Education system and as a result, the future population faces the threat of undergoing rigorous and expensive health care, even when it may not have results.
In this talk, Dr. Chitra highlights these concerns, while also describing how a state in India successfully managed to come up with a comprehensive healthcare plan encompassing palliative care. Learn how Palliative Care is not just an end-of-life option but can be integrated and adopted into regular health care not only by doctors but also accepted as a viable alternative by the patient's families.
