Our Planet is in peril. Global warming and its adverse effects are at the tipping point of no return. Sea ice is disappearing at a faster rate than ever before in recorded history. What’s happening to the ice is the canary in the coal mine. If the ice melts, life on earth will never be the same. Our time to act is limited if we want to protect the ice and humanity. Our fate and the oceans’ fate are one. As an artist, I believe the beauty of our planet is often more efficient at touching people than scary news reports and statistics. Everyone cares about the beauty of our planet, and what we care about, we protect.
I want to introduce a paradigm shift in the way we think about global warming. This issue is seen as a problem and is something that is done ‘to us’. I suggest we look at global warming as something that is happening ‘for us’. When we change the preposition from ‘to’ and use ‘for’ instead, we go from being ‘victim’ to being ‘empowered’ and this is where changes are made. Let’s take back the power and become proactive and engaged.
As Gandhi said, “We must be the change we wish to see.“ I know in my heart, we can be the change that we must be.
