Following a diagnosis of psychosis and a failed suicide attempt, Clay began to question whether it was really the pain of mental illness which motivated the desire to escape, and in doing so began to believe that we have been thinking about the issue all wrong. As someone dealing with mental health issues, writer and performer Clay Nikiforuk was far from alone. Yet why are so many people scared of being open about their mental health? Clay’s conclusion - the pain of judgement is more dangerous than the experience of mental illness itself. So we all have a role in preventing harm.
