Cherie Yang is a North Korean refugee who was born in Hye Ryeng, Hamgyenbookdo. Through her employment at a resort in North Korea, she realized that the North Korean regime had been lying to North Korean people. She escaped from North Korea in search for freedom, departing in a dramatic escape. Whereas about 30,000 North Korean refugees have escaped to South Koreans, Cherie is one of only about 200 North Korean refugees to immigrate directly to the United States.
