• October 2018
Dr. Yvonne Cagle explores her journey towards NASA and the inspiration that the legendary Dr. Catherine Johnson was on her career. She discusses the role of robots and humans in space exploration and defends the need for humans in space as the irreplaceable heart of the journey to aspire, to search, and to learn.
Dr. Yvonne Cagle retired as a Colonel in the United States Air Force (USAF) where she served as a Senior Flight Surgeon prior to her selection to the NASA Astronaut Corp and her role as chief scientist for the NASA’s Commercial Reusable Suborbital Research program. Dr. Cagle’s ground-breaking work is preserving historic NASA space legacy data while simultaneously galvanizing NASA’s initiatives in global mapping, sustainable energies, green initiatives, and disaster preparedness. Dr. Cagle has held adjunct professorships with Stanford University, UC Davis, and UTMB Galveston. Dr. Cagle, in collaboration with NASA, was a Visiting Professor at Fordham University investigating mitigating neurocognitive countermeasures to optimize long duration space crew behavioral health and performance. Currently, Dr. Cagle is performing feasibility evaluations for lunar/Mars polar-based analog simulators pre-exploration positioned to validate human physical and neurobehavioral health, performance, and resiliency in remote isolated and confined environments for deep space exploration.
