Are we represented by the messages we communicate? Yolanda Domínguez wonders if we can defy the hidden stereotypes in the images we create and consume every day. Maybe, through more reflection and consciousness, we would be able to dismantle those ideas that we give for granted in communication, which deprive us of our freedom and happiness as a community.
Yolanda Domínguez creates projects on social topics related to gender and consumption. The objective of her work is to raise social awareness and empower people through participation in activities in public spaces and on social media. Her most distinguished project is “Poses”, in which she decontextualizes models poses in daily life settings, thus evidencing the absurd and negative aspects of female representation in the fashion industry. Yolanda Domínguez is an expert in communication and gender, and her work transcends the artistic field and is applied to educational programs and universities around the world. She regularly works in collaboration with media and is a columnist for the Huffington Post.
