The facts - 150 billion garments are produced every year. The fashion industry is a major contributor to water pollution, plastic pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions. The US alone exports more than a billion pounds of used clothing each year and majority ends up in Ghana. Over 40,000 tones of secondhand clothing are shipped into Ghana every year. The problem - What happens to these second hand garments that are not purchased? Yayra Agbofah breaks down how fast fashion has affected the country, and its impact on the environment. Proposed solution - He advocates for sustainable clothing, and for sustainability as a practiced culture in the country, and across the Continent, noting that 95% of discarded clothing can be recycled or up-cycled.
