The lives of people who suffer from inflammatory bowel diseases are greatly impacted, yet most of us aren't aware that these people are among us. For these people, daily life is a challenge due to their difficult bowel habits. In this talk, Vera Gomes discusses what life is like for sufferers of Chron's disease and ulcerative colitis, invisible diseases which impact sufferers' lives in multiple ways. She also discusses her involvement in lobbying actions on behalf of those impacted by these diseases.
Vera was born in Portugal and moved to Belgium six years ago when her passion became her work: space! Despite her busy and demanding professional schedule, she found time to fight for patient rights and better healthcare in Portugal, where she travels often for her advocacy activities. Vera is an author, health advocate, and someone who looks at the stars.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
