Can endemic diseases like malaria be permanently eradicated? In the last decades, we used pesticides and pharmacological methods without effectively solving the problem. In addition, these methods have side effects on both the human body and the environment. Thanks to the application of the 'Gene Drive' technology, Valentino Gantz claims that the solution is very close. By modifying the DNA of the mosquito, we could make it inhospitable to the parasite carrying the plasmodium. This will significantly reduce mortality and increase our chances to defeat malaria once and for all.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
