When Tomoyasu Fujii decided to convert his DeLorean into an electric car, many people said to him, "I was thinking about that too." Why, then, do so few people actually go out and do it? The answer lies in Fujii's story, starting from his first time seeing the DeLorean in the film "Back to the Future." We are the ones who shape the future, even if we can only change a little bit.
Tomoyasu Fujii was born in Onomichi, Hiroshima, and is the representative of the Hiroshima branch of the Japanese Electric Vehicle Club. He started working in Hiroshima in 1993, and around that time got interested in environmental issues, learning about the existence of electric vehicles. His interest in automobile designer Giorgetto Giugiaro's designs, as well as his love for the movie "Back to the Future," both influenced him to start work on the "DeLorean Electric Car Conversion Project" in 2007. After receiving a DeLorean that was taken out of commission in a traffic accident, he successfully converted the vehicle on March 11th, 2009 with friends he made from his blog. He's been improving it ever since, with July 2016 marking the third upgrade he's made to the vehicle so far. He's also done work on converting a Rover Mini into an electric car, advocating for the restoration of old cars into electric vehicles. His current interests are in creating a sustainable society and in energy. He is currently working on making his DeLorean run entirely on renewable energy.
