Mathematics is often seen to be the opposite of our temperamental and subjective emotions: it is objective, pure, and true. Based on recent psychological research, this talk shows that we have it all wrong when it comes to thinking about maths and emotion in this way. It turns out that many of our emotions are surprisingly mathematical by their own nature, including the emotions of depression, love, humour and the appreciation of beauty. This research offers further surprises by allowing us to address and even answer age-old philosophical questions such as: What is humour? What is Beauty?
