Context is king when you're innovating to save lives
For seven years before giving this talk Tanya had been part of an effort to explore how innovation, technology and a start-up approach could disrupt development to achieve more with less. She and her team wondered what solutions might be created if they could share some of the most pressing problems of the world’s poorest people with creative thinkers who had a proven track record of success. So they went to Silicon Valley, where they spent a week with a group of some forty entrepreneurs who had created solutions that successfully served consumer needs and wants. But, after a week of co-creation these anointed innovators had not come up with a single workable solution, because they simply could not imagine the reality of the world’s poorest people. So, Tanya and her team pivoted their approach. She shares, with crystal clarity, what they learned from experiences closest to home in Southern and East Africa.
