Perfectionism isn’t innate, it’s taught — right alongside math, English and history. Perfectionist ideals are perpetuated and reinforced by schools’ reward systems, and students are suffering the consequences. Their lives have come to revolve around a single letter, A-F, and the result is that students’ self-esteem has taken a hit. In this TEDx Talk, Sophia Viscarello will tell her story, reflect on educational reward systems, and provide insight into the ways we can take ownership of our parts in the cycle so as to make real, lasting change.
