Nurturing The Fertile Soil of Lifelong Learning

To succeed in a world of ‘unknown unknowns’, children need to develop a love of learning, and the foundations of lifelong learning, while in school. They need to feel safe, engaged, confident, and curious. These behaviours need to be role-modeled by the permanent adults in their school lives - their teachers. And in turn, officials in education systems need to role-model these behaviours with their teachers. Only then can this change be sustainable across the entire educational ecosystem.
STiR Education Founder Sharath Jeevan shares his practical lessons, showing how children can fall back in love with learning, teachers can fall back in love with teaching, and officials can fall back in love with their teachers. He shows how these lessons were dramatically and unexpectedly learned, as STiR scaled from 25 teachers in 2012 to 200,000 teachers in 2019. And shares his plans to engage 2 million teachers and 60 million children by 2025. STIR’s experience turns what was a blindspot into a major breakthrough for how we think about improving global education.
