Millennials are now the largest, most diverse adult population in the US -- but far too often, they're reduced to the worn-out stereotype of lazy, entitled avocado toast lovers, says author Reniqua Allen. In this revealing talk, she shares overlooked stories of millennials of color, offering a broader, more nuanced view of the generation. "Millennials are not a monolith," she says.

"Black Millennials in America"
This is one of the few reports that comprehensively and exhaustively takes a research-based approach in looking at the lived experiences of black millennials, using a range of metrics like employment, education, experiences with racism, politics and the criminal justice system. It is a must-read for anyone looking to understand the experience of young black America.

James Baldwin's "American Dream and American Negro" Speech
A thoughtful piece by the fantastic James Baldwin on the inequality in the black experience. He touched on not only the American Dream but also the frustrations when it hits when you're about thirty and realize you are largely powerless in a system that favors people that often don’t look like you. Atlanta
Atlanta is one of my favorite shows because it gives a unique and nuanced look at the experience of a group of millennials in Atlanta. It's about being smart and black with a dream, but also just being imperfect and young. It services as a critical commentary on race in America, while also just being just a slice of life look at a group of people.

Chewing Gum
A laugh out loud comedy about a young woman looking for love in the UL. While the love story is good, it's everything else that the show explores religion, family, friendships in an integrated housing project that make it binge worthy must-see TV. The experiences show commonality of the black millennial experience around the world, but also subtle differences as well.

The American Dream: In History, Politics, and Fiction
This book helped me understand how pervasive the idea of the dream is, from politics to popular culture. Using a multitude of literary works and speeches from prominent politicians, this book convinced me that the American Dream is a tour de force in America — and how hard it is to change the narrative that this a land of opportunity regardless of race or ethnicity.
