In 2014, Rebecca Carbone underwent emergency surgery to resect a large brain tumour. However, a cerebral haemorrhage unexpectedly struck with devastating consequences. Rebecca was left completely paralyzed, temporarily blind, and unable to speak. Over the following days, numerous medical professionals evaluated Rebecca. Her prognosis was grim. Rebecca could not be rehabilitated and required permanent around the clock care.
Advised to admit Rebecca to a nursing home, her family refused. Defying incredible odds, Rebecca persevered through years of intensive rehabilitation, painstakingly relearning every skill again despite the diagnosis of further inoperable brain tumours.
Rebecca’s extraordinary journey has given her a unique perspective on harnessing the empowerment of hope, without falling into the trap of toxic positivity.
