TEDxCUHK
• April 2019
Professor Nicholas Rawlins, in his talk "Pain and Brain: Fears and Phantoms", outlines how the innate predisposition to anxiety can exacerbate pain. Through the explanation of the neural pathways associated with pain, as well as a plethora of experimental evidence, Professor Rawlins sheds light onto how the human brain perceives pain, and how this perception influences our actions.
Nick Rawlins is Professor of Behavioural Neuroscience at the University of Oxford and Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Development and External Affairs. His research spans areas including the neural basis of memory, brain degeneration, pain and anxiety. He was elected Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2006 and Fellow of the British Psychological Society in 2010.
