Why studying nuclear fusion is like sowing walnut seeds | Piero Martin | TEDxVarese
Piero Martin • TEDxVarese
What do scientific research and walnut trees have in common? How can we recreate a piece of sun on the earth, to obtain clean energy? Piero Martin, a lecturer in Experimental Physics at the University of Padua, explains just that, starting from his personal experience. He has dedicated his career to researching nuclear fusion, a technology that could generate clean, safe and unlimited energy. This technology requires decades of study and an ability to imagine the future also beyond one’s own individual and limited horizon, and an ability to plant seeds whose fruits will be taken by someone else later on, much like many of the greatest scientific discoveries in the past.
