For Dr. Kurz it is obvious, where the critical place to determine your future is located. Regarding global demographic trends, our future lies in urban areas. He is convinced, to master the global challenges like climate change or civil conflicts and the effects which emerge from it, we need to act on a local level. As the mayor of the highly industrialized city of Mannheim, he and his local government created a sustainable energy action plan to reduce emissions inside urban areas. Global city-to-city cooperation in economic or social areas is the key to have an impact on whole the world. Dr. Kurz wants to encourage us to be a ‘citizen’ and to participate in and co-create our city’s development, to successfully encounter today’s global challenges.
