Surthriving with ALS. A bottom-up approach to ALS advocacy.

Drawing clear parallels between his life as an aid worker and as a patient with a terminal disease, Norman MacIsaac argues that ownership and empowerment are important in efforts to fight both poverty and ALS. Meaningful, sustainable change begins not with doctors, researchers or foreign aid workers, but with respect and support for the unique perspective, understanding, and initiatives of those they seek to help. Their tremendous potential for innovation and leadership must be harnessed and supported, turning their struggle into a force for good, not undermined by top-down approaches.
