As a six‑year‑old, Nam imagined traveling beyond the small rural town in southern Vietnam where he grew up. He explored the world through the screen of his family’s 14‑inch television, learning about penguins in Antarctica, cultures in South America, the Vatican, and Buckingham Palace. After enrolling in the Washington State University, Nam learned about and started utilizing the studying abroad opportunities with an ambitious goal: study abroad on all seven continents. In 2018, he made it and became the first and only student in the entire 128-year history of Washington State University to have ever studied abroad on every continent on Earth. In this talk, he shared the stories and lessons that he had experienced and learned throughout the journey. Studying abroad allows Nam to gain new experiences, as well as exposing him to entirely different ideologies. He believes that studying abroad has helped him learn more about himself as an individual, in addition, it enabled him to embrace his own culture through different lens. Nam is currently pursuing double degrees in International Business and Marketing at the Carson College of Business, Washington State University.
