Mike Weber, nasceu na Alemanha e vive há 40 anos em Portugal onde casou e é pai de dois filhos. Foi o mentor da ideia da Estação Litoral da Aguda ELA, na Praia da Aguda, em Vila Nova de Gaia, e é o diretor desde a sua criação em 1999. Também é professor no Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar ICBAS da Universidade do Porto onde começou a lecionar Ecologia Aquática em 1982. No âmbito da sua atividade científica viajou para muitos países fora e dentro da Europa. Vários livros da sua autoria e coautoria foram publicados pelas Edições Afrontamento do Porto nos últimos 27 anos. As suas obras incidem sobre a história da Praia da Aguda, a fauna e flora do litoral, o mar, os recursos aquáticos em geral, as pescas, os achados da praia, o vidro-do-mar e a história e etnografia do anzol.
Nesta talk Mike Weber leva-nos numa longa viagem das selvas da Colombia até à praia da Aguda, partilhando a resiliência e todos os pequenos passos para concretizar a ideia da ELA- Estação Litoral da Aguda, um multifacetado museu, centro de investigação, que promove a divulgação científica, a proteção ambiental e preservação da cultura local.

Mike Weber was born in Germany and has lived in Portugal for 40 years where he married and is the father of two children. He was the mentor of the idea of the Aguda ELA - Coastal Station at Aguda Beach in Vila Nova de Gaia and has been the director since its inception in 1999. He is also a professor at the Abel Salazar ICBAS Institute of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Porto where he began teaching Aquatic Ecology in 1982. As part of his scientific activity, he traveled to many countries outside and within Europe. Several books of his authorship and co-authorship have been published by the Afrontamento do Porto Editions in the last 27 years. His works focus on the history of Aguda Beach, the fauna and flora of the coast, the sea, the aquatic resources in general, fisheries, beach finds sea glass and the history and ethnography of the hook.
In this talk Mike takes us on a long journey from the jungles of Colombia to Aguda beach, sharing the resilience and all the small steps to realize the idea of ELA- Aguda Coastal Station, a multifaceted museum, a research center that promotes the scientific dissemination, environmental protection, and preservation of local culture.
