Maria Gal talks about the impact of societal racism on the audiovisual production market in Brazil and presents percentages that reflect the minuscule number of black women and actresses in the job market. An actress, producer, and presenter, she studied at Escola de Artes Dramáticas in São Paulo and co-founded the theater company "Os Crespos," composed only of black actors. She has acted in numerous plays including "Os Sertões" at Teatro Oficina, and "Black Angel"; films including "Carandiru," "Um Homem Qualquer" ("An Ordinary Man"), "Ensaio sobre Carolina" ("Essay on Carolina"), and "The Imperfect Man," and television programs including "Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum." She was awarded Best Supporting Actress for the short "D.O.R."
