The Place Where Anything Is Possible
Lucia Rose Dahn • TEDxRansomEvergladesSchool
Stories are constantly shaping our society, from the tales we hear when we are children, to the narratives we see presented on social media. In this TEDx talk, Lucia Rose Dahn discusses how people are both consciously, and unconsciously, influenced by the stories that make up our world. The stories we tell, as well as those we receive, have the power to shape our future. Personal and societal narratives can make the world feel small and restrain our curiosity and openness to new possibilities. Lucia highlights how authors have broken barriers, challenging traditional roles and expectations in their work. Her presentation invites you to recognize the infinite creative potential in writing and to consider how you can use storytelling to embrace alternative possibilities. She encourages you to discover and utilize your imagination and creative voice for self-expression and empowerment. Lucia Rose Dahn is currently a sophomore at Ransom Everglades Upper School in Coconut Grove, Florida. She is a native Spanish speaker and has been studying Chinese since seventh grade. Lucia is a member of the VEX Robotics Team, an editor of the school's literary magazine, Inklings, and on the Varsity Track and Field Team. Since middle school, her passion for creative writing has led her to write numerous short stories and novellas. Her stories, “Alone” and “Just Maybe,” earned the Grand Prize for the middle and high school divisions in the La Plume Young Writers’ Contest, and are digitally published. Lucia has also been awarded four Regional Gold Keys through the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for her novella, poetry, and short fiction works. In order to share her love of writing with other students, she developed Write Right Now (www.write-right-now.com) in 2019. The site offers easily accessible writing resources and provides guidance on the writing process. Lucia has presented the Write Right Now platform to Breakthrough Miami Scholars, introducing writing as a means of creative self-expression. She looks forward to attending the Iowa Young Writers’ Studio in the summer of 2021. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
