In a very current talk, Prof. Dr. Lucia shows that the public university is an investment with great return that offers numerous services and benefits to the population in general. She defends the importance of scientific research and of the public university, free and accessible to all. She goes further, highlighting the importance of people knowing what forms of access are available at the university. Starting from the premise that knowledge only increases when it is shared, she asks, "Who's interested in ignorance?"
At the age of four, Lucia already knew what she wanted to be: doctor of congress. She devised a profession that conveyed the search for and sharing of knowledge, two factors that still propel her. She is Dean of the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre, a pediatric cardiologist and a professor. In medical school, she soon found a passion in her first year, the discipline of Scientific Methodology, of which she is a teacher. One of her concerns has always been the issue of equal opportunity for women. She advocates collaborative and participatory management, which has provoked major changes in the university. Based on numerous studies in management, anthropology and even biology, it is possible to observe that cooperation takes us further than competition.
