Is the use of humor appropriate at work? Karen Bartuch, Brandon Hendrix and Tammy Higgins think so. They are students in DePaul University’s Doctorate in Business program. Together, they conduct research and have founded 5th Floor Consulting, which bridges the gap between science and business to help clients achieve optimal performance. In their talk “Funny Business,” they reconsider the role of humor in the workplace. Bartuch is an evidence-based strategist, creator, marketer and leader with over 17 years of experience in the public and private sector including work as a Chicago police officer and roles at Motorola Solutions and PwC. Hendrix has training and work experience in disparate fields like automotive technology, mathematics, and the US Army, and is currently working in data science finding new uses for applying data to ethical issues. Higgins has more than 25 years of experience in information technology beginning her career in the US Air Force as a systems engineer, and has held various sales roles at Orange Business Services, Cisco and Nortel Networks.
