Don´t be afraid, the future is actually a good thing

Kai is one of the first scientifically educated futurist. They don´t use crystal balls and megatrends because those are only good at looking at the past. We homo-sapiens are limited by a linear perception of reality. But progress is another story these days. Digitization is changing our world like nothing ever has before. Everything linked to digitization grows exponentially (hockey stick). What will happen then, afterwards? What`s the next step of evolution?
There is little doubt that we will soon be able to design artificial intelligence. Science fiction makes us believe that machines will take over. Everything we build our live around is related to work but the current concept of work is only 100 years old. Wouldn’t it be nice if everything that we don´t like about our jobs gets automated?
He discussed the hype around unicorns with a student who was doing research on magical creatures. What if the unicorn would be some sort of allegory for humans who start the ripple effect and do things different and are very successful in proceedings? He meets this kind of people, such as Greg Wyler. Wyler was working in remote areas, building telecoms infrastructure. One day he realized that what he was doing was limited to a certain growth space and thought about how to send internet from space instead. He enquired how many satellites would be needed but it was much too expensive and NASA saw it as a bad idea. An alternative would be that half of the world population, which has enough resources should pay for the people who don´t have access to the internet. This year he found funding, not from NASA but from private investment.
