The Decathlon is a Track and Field event that has crowned the World's Greatest Athlete at the Olympic Games since 1912. Yet, even though women have made great strides in being allowed to compete in almost every track and field event, and every individual decathlon event at the Olympic Games: No woman has ever been allowed the opportunity to compete. And even though women are now allowed to run a marathon, sprint a full 100m, pole vault, and many other disciplines they have fought for- we still have more fighting to do.
Being a decathlete requires an immense amount of grit from the athlete. And no matter if an athlete is in high school, intramural, college, professional, or recreational sports, being a person of grit is something we can all be better at in our journey. Even if you are not an athlete, learning to have some grit in life will help get many through life's never-ending challenges.
In this talk we discuss what it takes to have some GRIT, and how it applies to women in our fight for a full decathlon at the highest levels.
