Millions of Nigerians face financial disaster when faced with a sudden heath crisis, as health insurance is still voluntary. Dr Ifeanyi Nsofor experienced this first hand, when his first child was born with congenital heart defects.
He shares his personal experience of having to deal with his child’s health crisis and why mandatory health insurance makes good business sense for the individual and for the country.
Dr. Ifeanyi Nsofor is a 2018 New Voices Fellow at the Aspen Institute. He is the CEO of EpiAFRIC and Director of Policy and Advocacy at Nigeria Health Watch. With 20 years post-graduation experience in global health, Ifeanyi has worked in government, non-profit and for-profit sectors in the health space. He is a leading advocate for Universal Health Coverage in Nigeria. This means he wants every Nigerian NOT to suffer financial hardship to access quality healthcare. He pushes for use of technology to democratise health.
