What do oil and porcelain art have in common? Artist Gunhild Vatn makes use of one to display the controversial nature of the other. Her art project Ocean Viking, is based on historical photographs of Norway’s first Oil platform, reflecting the story of a successful industrial adventure and the promise of prosperity and wealth in Norway. Hidden beneath this story of beauty and nostalgia also lies a dystopian vision, which questions the consequences of the oil aera. Vatn shares her personal experiences on how passion for nature and porcelain has made an impact on her art projects and how that stands in times when the world is aiming at moving away from fossil fuels.
