人類進步的過程常伴隨著實驗動物的犧牲,然而由於物種間的差異,大量動物的犧牲卻往往只能產出有限的數據,而人體器官晶片是陳冠宇博士找到的平衡點。從人體中提煉出來的細胞,被製成一張微小的晶片,但這個可以拿在指尖的科技卻可以重現人體複雜的結構,創造出比動物實驗更準確的數據資料。未來人體器官晶片甚至有望結合幹細胞,讓晶片個人化,除了持續改變動物的生命,也更進一步改善人類的生命。
Improvement in human life is often accompanied by animal testing. Yet due to physiological differences, results from such sacrifices are often limited as they do not necessarily translates to human. Guan-Yu Chen works on developing organs-on-chips, where a tiny chip could simulate the complex reaction of the human body with results that are much more accurate than animal testing.
