SUNAGAWA Genshiro was keenly sensing the limits to current medical approaches working as a pediatrician. It was around this time, he serendipitously stumbled across the concept of “human hibernation” and was struck by the its potential to transform medicine, and thus, began to immerse himself in research. While his pursuit initially started as research to save lives, he has recently come to realize that this topic is also closely linked to the fundamental question: what is life? He will introduce what the future holds if hibernation can be induced in humans, and also the meaning of life.
