Ridding Communities of Innovation Deserts
Felecia Hatcher • TEDxFargo 2017
26.5 million people live in food deserts and travel miles to have access to fresh and healthy food options in the U.S. What we don't talk about is the 50 million people that are economically distressed in the U.S., living in and working in these innovation deserts. They sometimes travel miles to be an active participant or beneficiary of the tech, innovation, startup, or creative community. We can increase our competitiveness by increasing the way the black community is valued within the innovation economy. By changing policy, creating spaces, and increasing the resource magnetism and deal flow, the same community can increase the way they add value to the innovation economy.
