Dr Emma Mellanie Morton |
TEDxUniversityofStrathclyde
• October 2021
Taking a holistic approach to her work as an architect, Dr Emma Mellanie Morton’s philosophy is one that states “…great architecture should tread lightly on the environment”. In this powerful and personal talk, she shares her journey, inspired by her environmentalist daughter as well as children all across the globe, to reduce her own family’s consumption of single-use plastics. Working with both the children of Glasgow and the city itself, she shares the vision for the Glasgow Children and Young People’s Climate Charter and how through unity and purpose, we can leave an equitable and just planet for future generations.

Climate change arguably poses the biggest challenge to children’s rights globally. The Glasgow Children’s Climate Charter will declare a duty of care to protect children against climate change and commit to a legacy of intergenerational equity. It is a declaration and promise to work in partnership with children to sustain a city that is restorative by intention and is regenerative by design.
