Precision infection testing for better health outcomes | Dr. Crystal Icenhour | TEDxAshburnSalon
Raised in rural West Texas, Dr. Icenhour’s closest family members frequently failed to receive sufficient medical care. Her grandmother suffered from undiagnosed chronic pain, which doctors regularly dismissed or overlooked. Throughout her, she has remained steadfast to improving the way illnesses are understood and tested – to raise the standard of care that is affordable for the family.
As the CEO and Co-Founder of Aperiomics, Dr. Icenhour manages a team of infectious disease experts and artificial intelligence technologists, leveraging decades of experience in medical research to design an innovative tool capable of pinpointing bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites known to modern science. She shares a case study highlighting some of the medical breakthroughs and the call to action while explaining the technologies and science utilized to build the infrastructure for the future. Her professional goal is to bridge the translational gap between the two worlds of business and science. Leadership, innovation, and commercialization are her passion.
Dr. Icenhour trained as a medical researcher in infectious disease with a focus in fungal disease. Upon completing her training at Mayo Clinic and Duke University Medical Center, she co-founded her first company, which focused on intestinal parasite and fungal diagnostics. She is committed to improving patient health through better infectious disease testing.
Dr. Icenhour is the founding CEO of Aperiomics, a precision infection testing company at the intersection of high tech and biotech. Aperiomics is the first and only company identifying every known bacteria, DNA virus, parasite, and fungus in one test. This technology is transforming infectious disease diagnostics and saving lives.
