• April 2021
This multi-medium work of art was born in the Greenville, SC-based TEDxHeritageGreen 2021 Artists Project, during which unlikely collaborators were thrown together and challenged to CREATE. With only five weeks and the springboard word “resilience,” the artists delivered a beautiful, ethereal piece. The video debuted during TEDxHeritageGreen 2021: TRUTH, held in three short virtual sessions on April 23, 25, and 27.
ARTIST COLLABORATORS: Darby Wilcox, singer-songwriter (“Eyes In The Back Of His Head” written and performed by Darby Wilcox) / Gina Buntz, choreographer / Keith Grace, visual artist / Laura Blume, visual artist. ADDITIONAL CREDITS: Special thanks to the Fine Arts Center (FAC) for the use of the dance studio. Dancers/Performers- Jessica Lyons, Lillian Mozie, Tyler Pearson from FAC Dance; Videographer/editor- Mark Berry; Sound Engineer- David Sims.
ARTISTIC STATEMENT: As a group, we literally defined “resilience” when faced with a challenge that had no direction. And while we first pursued individual journeys for solutions, it evolved into a truly rewarding collaboration for TEDxHeritageGreen. Bringing a group of (typically solo) artist-creators together is a challenge, much less during a pandemic. As the world dissolved into segmented solitude, we all found ourselves silently craving community and a sense of belonging. We were overdue for an opportunity like this to emerge. And emerge we did. From Zoom calls to house calls, our team created as individuals apart, then distilled our separateness into a collaborative collage of movement, color, and sound. Defined and informed by our life experiences and aspirations, we have discovered and uncovered our own resilience in a visual narrative that we hope will inspire, enchant, and invigorate the audience. Even after this 30-day collaboration, Team Resilience continues to share our vulnerabilities, extend our boundaries, and ignite our energy to explore.
