When news of the demolition of Dongshankou came, people realized that familiar streets and buildings might soon give way to urban development - such events are not new to people in Guangzhou or in other cities. How should we engage in these discussions that are so relevant to our living environment, and does participation really work? Aster Li tells us through her own example and that of her organization that if people are willing to participate, it will work.
