Vaccines have had enormous positive impacts on human health since Jenner’s first demonstration of vaccination in 1796 at Berkeley. Although vaccine engineering and manufacturing approaches have evolved, there has been no significant paradigm shift. Most vaccines rely on historic manufacturing processes invented before the structure of DNA was determined. As a result, vaccines change more slowly than diseases, and cost more than they should. Protection can also be incomplete, and side-effects due to impurities can occur. With modern advanced design and manufacturing capability, a paradigm shift is overdue. In this talk Anton addresses exciting possibilities for vaccinating a connected world.
